EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

President

Professor Adeola Adenikinju holds a PhD Degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan, where he is currently a Professor of Economics. He is also a Research Professor at the Centre for Econometrics and Allied Research. Adeola was a Visiting Scholar to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1996 and 2005. His research interests include Petroleum and Energy Economics, Economic modeling, and Economic Development Issues. He is a former President, Nigerian Association for Energy Economics and Head of Department Department of Economics, University of Ibadan.

Adeola had served in several senior policy positions in his esteemed career. He was a Special Assistant to the Presidential Adviser on Energy Matters, between 2005 and 2007, and Senior Special Assistant to the President, Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the President between 2010 and 2011. He was Gas Policy Analyst at the World Bank assisted Federal Government Project Gas-to-Power, between 2007 and 2009. In 2010, he served as the Technical Adviser to the Presidential Committee on Deregulation of the Downstream Petroleum Sector. He is a former Director, Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law (CPEEL), a MacArthur Foundation Regional Centre of Excellence at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He has consulted widely for many international organisations on energy and economic issues in Africa and Nigeria.


Vice President

Dr. Baba Yusuf Musa is the current Director-General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM). He has a background in Economics (BSc.) and holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in Economics. With over two decades of experience at the Central Bank of Nigeria, he served in different roles, including Research, International Economic Relations, and Debt Management departments, retiring as an Assistant Director.

Dr. Musa is a renowned expert in Macroeconomic Management, specializing in fiscal and monetary policy issues and Public Debt Management, especially in Anglophone West African Countries. He has expertise in debt sustainability analysis, portfolio optimisation, risk management, and building institutional arrangements for debt management and debt management laws. He possesses exceptional skills in loan negotiations, debt database management, statistics, and forecasting and evaluation of public debt management at national and subnational levels of government. Dr. Musa is actively involved in international committees like the World Bank Debt Management Facility, demonstrating his strong commitment to his profession.

Dr. Musa has played a vital role in developing debt sustainability analysis (DSA) and medium-term debt management strategies (MTDS) for several countries in Anglophone West Africa and beyond. He has contributed significantly to Institutional Strengthening efforts, helping countries assess their debt management performance and formulate reform plans. He served on the Capacity Building Programme Committee for the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative from 1998 to 2006. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) Research and Advocacy Committee and a member of the Editorial Board of the CIBN Journal of Banking 2021 – Date. He is a Fellow of the Compliance Institute in Nigeria. He is also the current Editor-in-Chief of the West African Financial and Economic Review (WAFER). He held the position of President of the International Association of Research Scholars, and Administrators (IARSA 2019 – 2023). He was a member of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the World Bank Debt Management Facility for 5 years (2009 – 2013). He held the position of the Chairman of the Implementation Coordination Group (ICG) of the World Bank Debt Management Facility (DMF) from 2016 to April 2019. Dr. Musa has organised various training programmes and participated in missions with international organisations like the World Bank, IMF, Commonwealth Secretariat, Debt Relief International, and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
Beyond his administrative and other engagements, Dr. Musa has also published widely in peer-reviewed journals.


Vice President

Ifeoma Stella Madueme has a B.Sc. in Economics, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, Master of Education degree, a Master of Science degree in Economic Development, Doctorate degree in Educational Administration and another doctorate degree in Development Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She also has a Basic course Certificate in Agricultural and Food Nutrition Technology. She is a Professor of Development Economics. She has produced up to twenty PhDs and over thirty Masters students in Economics.

She has served in various capacities at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka such as Head of Department of Economics, Faculty representative of the Social Sciences to the Post Graduate School, Chairman, University of Nigeria General Enterprises Ltd, Consultancy Unit Vice Chancellors representative, Consultant, UNN Enterprise School, Member, Internally Generated Revenue Committee, Chairman, UNN You Tube Committee, etc. She is a Fellow of the Royal Doyen Academy. She has published over fifty papers in both local and international journals, authored four university textbooks which is in Amazon. She is a reviewer for some local and international journals. She is a 2001 Claude Ake Scholar by the African American Institute, USA, Honorary Mayor President of East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA and a 2016 top ten most innovative lecturer in University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She is a recipient of the University of Nigeria Excellence Award, NESA award for Excellence in leadership, APWEN Award of Excellence for Distinguished Career in Academics and University Services, Dorcas Award for philanthropy, etc.

National Secretary

Dr. Frank I. Ogbeide holds a B.Sc. in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, M.Sc. Business and Financial Economics from the University of Greenwich, London, and a Doctorate Degree in Economics from the University of Benin, under Scholarship obtained from the Collaborative Ph.D Programme (CPP) from the Nairobi-Based African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). Dr. Ogbeide was a Lecturer in the Department of Economics and Statistics, University of Benin, Benin City from January 2012 to May 2017, and is currently an Assistant Director in the Research, Policy & International Relations Department of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

He was Head, Research & Economic Intelligence Unit, Access Bank Plc from 2007 to 2011, receiving commendations and awards as “Most Customer-Centric Staff”, and also have cognate work experience in both Domestic and Foreign Operations at the United Bank for Africa Plc from 2000 to 2004. Frank was at a time engaged at Preston Consults Ltd, as a Principal Consultant, providing research, technical assistance and training services to national and state governments, international development agencies and private sector organisations. Dr. Ogbeide has published several articles in revered local and international journals, and have attended several technical and managerial trainings. He is a Full Member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) and an Associate Member of Risk Management Association of Nigeria (RIMAN). He received the University of Greenwich Studentship Grant for his M.Sc. Programme and PhD Thesis Grant from the AERC. His PhD thesis on “Financial Reform and Economic Performance in SSA” won the 3rd Best Prize of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) PhD Award in 2016. Dr. Ogbeide is a keen public speaker with passion for excellence; and likes playing table tennis, football, and remain an ardent Super Eagles Fan


Assistant Secretary

Victor Akidi holds a National Diploma in Public Administration from the then Rivers State College of Arts and Sciences, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Economics, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Development Economics and a Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) in Public Sector and Policy Economics from the University of Port Harcourt.
Dr. Akidi currently lectures in the Department of Economics, Rivers State University, and has published various research papers in both local and international journals. As an undergraduate student, he served as the Secretary and President of the Nigerian Economics Students Association in 2007 and 2008 respectively.



Business Manager

Idris Muhammad Idris is a Senior Economist, Policy and Financial Analyst, at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) Abuja. He holds a MSc. and PhD Degrees in Economics from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto; BSc. Economics and Advanced Diploma in Law from University of Maiduguri; Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Education from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria; Intermediate Diploma on French Language from Alliance Francaise; and Professional Certificate of Bank Institutions Analysis from GTC London, UK.
He is a Corporate Training Advisor and Facilitator to NDIC Academy. Idris was a visiting Senior Lecturer of Macroeconomic Policy Modeling in the Economics Department of University of Maiduguri and National Open University. His research areas include Macroeconomic Policy Analysis, Islamic Finance & Sukuk modeling, Deposit Insurance & Banking Supervision. He also has interest on Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, Corporate Governance, Deals structuring, Strategic Management, Project Management, Feasibility studies and Financial Budgetary Control & Planning.

He is among the team that worked on the National Financial Inclusion Strategy manual anchored by the CBN, Financial Literacy Strategy Manual, to mention a few. Idris is the Vice President of the NDIC Abuja Cooperative Society. He has actively participated in National and International Conferences on Economic Policy, Islamic Finance, Corporate Governance, Risk Management etc. He has published extensively in both domestic and international peer reviewed journals. He is a member of other professional bodies including Association Of National Accountants Of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Risk Managers Association of Nigeria and holds the European Business Competence License.

Dr. Idris is an Associate Editor and Editorial Board member of the NDIC Quarterly Journal. He is a fluent speaker of Arabic, English, French and Hausa languages. He is happily married and blessed with children.



Editor

Douglason Y.G. Omotor obtained Ph.D. Economics degree from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria in 2005. In his over 26 years of teaching and research, he has attended over 50 National and International Conferences/Seminars and Workshops; and contributed over 90 papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals. His main research interests are monetary, public, environmental and development economics. Prof. Omotor was a distinguished visiting scholar to the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA), Department of Economics, University of Oxford; a member of the Journal of African Economies Fellows Alumni Network (JAEFAN), University of Oxford, United Kingdom; member, Scientific Committee of the Turin School of Local Regulation (TSLR), Italy, and served on the Governing Board of Fondazione per L’Ambiente, Turin, Italy. He was a researcher with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi, Kenya, the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy for Africa (CEEPA), and University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Douglason, a life member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), was Assistant Secretary of the NES (2009-2011), National Secretary, NES (2011-2013) and Associate Editor, NES (2017-2019).

Prof. Omotor was appointed Professor of Economics in 2012. He has consulted with the World Bank, UNDP, European Union (EU), Ministries of Budget, Economic Planning; Finance; Niger Delta, etc. and participated in various national and West African regional assignments. He was a Visiting Professor to the University of Benin, Benin City from the Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria; an external examiner and professorial assessor to various universities in Nigeria and Botswana. Presently, he is the Advisor, Business Development & Consultancy Unit of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) on leave-of-absence from the Delta State University, Abraka.


Associate Editor

Evans Osabuohien is a Professor in the Department of Economics, Covenant University. He has nearly two decades of experience and has executed numerous funded projects as an individual and team leader. He is astute in research, resulting in the publication of five books and over 200 scholarly articles. He has participated in conferences/workshops/short courses across the world. He has consulted on many projects for international agencies such as International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), United Nations Agencies (e.g., UNCTAD & UNU-WIDER), African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Council for the Development of Social Research in Africa (CODESRIA), German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), among others.

He was appointed as the Head of Department (HOD) in 2016, emerging as the Youngest HOD in the University. He received a Double Promotion to the rank of a Full Professor of Economics in December 2017, making him the Youngest Professor in the University. In May 2020, he was recognised as ‘One of the 6 Youngest Professors in Nigeria’. He was re-appointed HOD February 2021 and successfully completed his tenure in October 2023. Presently, he is the Founding Chair of DePECOS Institutions and Development Research (DIaDeRC) where he coordinates the African Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN) with over 520 members across African countries and beyond.

He is the Pioneer Chair of the Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR) and the Pioneer Chair of the Regional Centre of Expertise, Ogun State (RCE Ogun). He is a member of many International Learned Societies/Professional Associations. He is a Visiting Professor at Witten/Herdecke University, Germany, and Eduardo Mondlane University, Maputo, Mozambique. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (June- December 2020). Beyond his academic and research prowess, he currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of some companies such as: Covenant Microfinance Bank Ltd (since 2018); Canadian Centre for Raw Materials Display Inc (CaCeRMDI), Ontario, Canada (since 2021); Seasoned Researchers and Business Advisors Ltd (since 2021); and OpenBinacle Group (Multinational Technology Company), Lead Economist, DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC, since 2023), among others. He is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (since 2012) and Swedish Institute (since 2009), among many others. He has supervised over 21 postgraduate candidates and has served as examiner and assessor for 75 postgraduate candidates and professorial cadre for institutions within and outside Africa including: Ghana, India, Malaysia, Mozambique, Poland, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, to mention but a few. He is married with children.


Associate Editor

Mohammed Yelwa is a Professor of Economics in Department of Economics, University of Abuja; a research fellow at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi; a visiting professor at the AERC shared facility for specialization and electives (SFSE) in the collaborative masters in Agricultural and applied Economics(CMAAE) programme at University of Pretoria (UP), South Africa; Editor, Abuja journal of Economics and Allied Fields (AJEAF), and visiting Professor at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. His areas of interest are Informal financial Economics and Development Economics. He is an external examiner and assessor to many universities in Nigeria.

He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Usmanu Danfidiyo University, Sokoto respectively. He obtained Bachelor Degree in Economics (B.Sc. Hons) in 1997, M.Sc. Economics, 2007 and PhD Economics in 2012. He has supervised twenty-two (22) Doctorate Degree students all in area of Economics and more than sixty (60) M.Sc. students in Department of Economics University of Abuja –Nigeria and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

Prof. Mohammed Yelwa, a fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), has over seventy- eight (78) peer reviewed articles published both at national and international reputable journals. Prof.Yelwa has consulted for World Bank and UNDP as an Independent Monitor during business census survey that was conducted in 2020 in Nigeria. He also consulted for World Bank and UNDP to Monitor Agricultural Census in 2023. Again, he consulted for Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in Department of Research, Statistics and Economic Planning.

Prof. Yelwa has attracted both External and Internal Research Grants with African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund).


Associate Editor

Dr. Ekundayo Peter Mesagan holds a B.Sc. Degree in Economics with a first class from Obafemi Awolowo University, an M.Sc. Degree in Economics with a distinction from the University of Lagos. He also holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Lagos. In 2020, his PhD thesis titled “Effects of Trade Flows and Institution on Environmental Quality in Sub-Saharan Africa, 1996-2016” was adjudged the best PhD thesis in the field of Humanities (covering the faculties of Social Sciences, Arts, Management Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and the Faculty of Law) in University of Lagos. He is one of the pioneer researchers that identified capital investment as a channel for improving the energy-pollution nexus. He is a seasoned researcher with several publications in local and international journals—his research interest centres around Energy Policy, Natural Resources, and Environmental Sustainability.

Dr. Mesagan previously worked as an adjunct lecturer at Caleb University, Lagos and the Distance Learning Institute at the University of Lagos. He also worked as a Business Development Officer with American International Insurance Company (AIICO) Plc and Beachcroft Global Resources Ltd. Dr. Mesagan is currently a senior lecturer in the School of Management and Social Sciences, Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos. He serves as a non-executive director of MGIG Global Research and a board member of the Youth for Environmental and Climate Change. Also, he serves as an External Research Examiner at Wavecrest College of Hospitality, Lagos, Nigeria. Member, Agenda 2050 Drafting Committee, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Abuja. Member, Review Committee of the Individual Research Project (IRP) Proposal of the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Ibadan, Oyo State. He is a research consultant to private firms, individuals, and government agencies. He is a motivational speaker and provides career assistance periodically at several forums nationwide. Dr. Mesagan is a reviewer and an editorial member of several local and international journal outlets. He loves exploring new opportunities, mentoring, teaching, and researching.


Publicity Secretary

Dr. Adeboje holds a B.Tech. degree in Agricultural Economics & Extension from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, graduating as the best student in the department, with a First Class honours. He also holds both M.Sc. and PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan, respectively, and currently enrolled in the Chartered Banker MBA Programme at Bangor University, United Kingdom. Dr. Adeboje is currently a Research Economist in the Research, Policy & International Relations Department at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). He was a Research Analyst at Analysts Data Services and Resources (ADSR) Ltd, providing research, technical assistance and training services to clients on behalf of the company. Oluwafemi was also, at a time, engaged at Tuns Farms Nigeria Ltd. as an Agricultural Economist.

Dr. Adeboje has published several articles in revered local and international journals, and has attended several conferences, including technical trainings. His research interests include macroeconomic analysis, financial and development economics. He is an Associate Member of Risk Management Association of Nigeria (RIMAN) and Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). Oluwafemi is currently an Associate Editor of the NDIC Quarterly Journal, a publication of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.


Internal Auditor

Dr. Emeka Obi holds the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree (First Class Honours) in Finance and Banking, Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees in Monetary Economics from the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt. He also received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Accountancy and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the then Imo (now Abia) State University, Okigwe and University of Lagos, Lagos respectively. He is a registered professional with the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), a Fellow of both the @Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). He also belongs to the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) – (NIM) as a member.

Dr. Obi is a visiting lecturer to the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Equally, he is a practising accountant and the Principal/Managing Partner of Chukwuemeka Obidike & Co (Chartered Accountants). He is also the Chief Consultant of Harvard Concept Consulting. Previously, he has worked as a professional accountant with the Halliburton Company – an International Conglomerate in the Oil and Gas industry - for over two decades and held the position of Country Finance Manager. He has attended many conferences, seminars, trainings and workshops on Economics, Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Leadership and Management.
<>br Dr. Emeka Obi is happily married to Lady Dr. Chidinma Evan Obi and the marriage is blessed with five (5) adorable children. His hobbies include reading, writing, travelling and counselling.

Professor Ummu Ahmed Jalingo hails from Gombi, Adamawa State and currently holds a Chair in Economics at Bayero University, Kano (BUK). She had her early education in Gombi and later attended BUK for her BSc and Master’s degree. She bagged her PhD in Economics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

Prof. Ummu is a Non-Executive Director of the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and has been a lecturer in Economics Department, BUK, for over 3 decades. She has published several books and over 30 articles in reputable local and international journals. Prof. Ummu has attended several conferences and trainings and is an external examiner to six (6) Universities in Nigeria.

Prof. Ummu was once the Head of Economics Department, BUK, Head of Economics and Development Studies Department, Federal University, Dutse (FUD) and was also the pioneer Director, Centre for Social and Economic Research, FUD. She was privileged to be endowed with a Professorial Chair in Aviation Economics by @Nigerian Aviation Handling Company since 2014.

Professor Ummu is also a Member of Institute of Management Consultants (MIMC); Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and World Economics Association (WEA). She was once a consultant for the European Union Support to Reforming Institutions (EU-SRIP), Department for International Development (DFID), Mobilization for Development (M4D) and the World Bank. Professor Ummu Jalingo is married and blessed with children.

Dr. Rislanudeen Muhammad is currently a General Manager in Bank of Industry, Nigeria. He has an extensive exposure in investment, commercial, retail and development banking as well as public service where he garnered three decades of active experience working in Kano State Budget Office; Economic Planning Directorate, Centre Point Merchant Bank Limited Lagos and Tropical Commercial Bank Limited Kano (where he rose to become its Acting MD/CEO in 2005). While serving as Executive Director, Risk Management, he became Acting MD/CEO of Unity Bank Plc Abuja in 2013. Dr. Rislanudeen has attended several courses on leadership and Risk Management both locally and internationally, some of which were in Harvard Business School Boston, London Business School , IESE Business School, Barcelona, INSEAD Business School, Fontainebleau and Galilee International Management Institute, Israel among others. He is an Honorary Senior Member, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN); Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management Consultants; Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals; Nigerian Institute of Fiscal Studies; Institute of Service Excellence and Good Governance; Chartered Institute of Loans and Risk Management; Life member, Nigerian Economic Society; Technical Advisor, Commonwealth Women in Business Board; Member, Daily Trust Newspapers Board of Economists, among others. Dr. Rislanudeen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (Second Class Upper) from Bayero University, Kano, 1985; MSc degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1991; and PhD Economics from Bayero University, Kano, 2019 (where he graduated with a Distinction, both in course work and thesis). Dr. Rislanudeen is an Adjunct lecturer on Risk Management in Financial Institutions in the Department of Banking and Finance, Bayero University, Kano.

Dr. Osuji obtained his BSc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Lagos, and also earned the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the same university. He graduated from the Nigerian Law School (BL) as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He is an alumnus of both the Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Osuji has attended the “Negotiation and Change Management Programme” of Harvard Business School, and also the Citibank School of Banking, NA, in New York. Dr. Osuji is the President of the Senior Management Programme (SMP) 2022 Class of Lagos Business School. Dr. Osuji was, at various times, General Manager, a Senior Lending Officer, and Managing Director of a specialized subsidiary in a top ten Commercial Bank. He was formerly Special Adviser to the Ministers of Finance and Economic Planning, Budget and Planning and Cabinet Affairs in the Presidency. Emeka holds the Fellowship of the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Institute of Management Consultants, and the Association of Investment Advisers of Nigeria. He was an Exco Member of the Institute of Directors, IoD Nigeria, and served as Chairman of its Membership Committee. Dr. Osuji is a Chartered Management Consultant and Qualified Commodity Broker. Dr. Emeka Osuji was the Pioneer Head of the Department of Economics, and currently an Associate Professor of Economics at the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.
