2021 Annual Conference Call for Nominations into the New Executive Council of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES)

At the Business Session of the 2021 Annual Conference of the NES which comes up in October 2021 both at Nile University, Abuja and virtually, the following offices of the Executive Council of the Society shall become vacant:
1. President
2. Vice-President 1
3. Vice-President 2
4. Secretary
5. Assistant Secretary
6. Business Manager
7. Internal Auditor
8. Publicity Secretary
9. Associate Editors (3)
10. Ex-officios (3)

Bearing in mind the provisions of Article XIII of the Society’s Constitution (see below), any interested member of the Society should complete the nomination form on the second page of this document and forward it to:

Article XIII: Nominations and Elections

1. Not later than eight (8) weeks before the dates fixed by the Council for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society, the Secretary shall invite nomination to the different offices in the Council.
2. The Council shall recommend one or more persons from the incumbent Council for election to the post of Secretary.
3. Subject to the provision of Article IX, Section 7, 8 and 14 and Article XIII, Sections 1 and 2, any member can nominate or be nominated for any post and all elections shall be by general vote at the AGM.
4. Without prejudice to the powers conferred on the Council by Article XIII, Sections 2 and 3:
a. No nomination shall be deemed valid unless a nomination form supplied by the Secretary has been duly completed by the candidate and signed by two members who are nominating him.
b. All nominations much reach the Secretary not later than four weeks before the beginning of the Annual General Meeting.
c. Only FINANCIAL Members are eligible to vote and be voted for.
5. No member shall be nominated for more than one post.
6. Election into offices shall be by secret ballot during the Business Session of the Annual Meeting.
7. The President shall designate two members to act as Returning Officers. Votes shall be counted immediately after the voting is completed.
8. The candidate with the highest number of votes shall be declared elected. In the case of two or more candidates having the same number of votes, the winner shall be decided upon by lot.
